The perfect vegan burger bun

Ingredients for 4 (rather big) buns

  • 300g unbleached flour
  • 1 yeast
  • 120ml soy milk
  • 60ml lukewarm water
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1 tsp ground flax seed
  • 1 Tsp olive oil
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 Tsp finely chopped basil
  • 1 pinch of salt


  1. Mix yeast, water and sugar. Let sit for 10 minutes.
  2. Mix flax seed and milk in a small bowl.
  3. In a big bowl mix the rest of the ingredient then add the yeast mixture and and flax seed one. Combine and then knead on a floured surface until smooth.
  4. Put back in the bowl, cover and let rise until it doubles in size (about 1 hour)
  5. Knock the dough back down, knead a little and divide in 4. Form 4 balls, place them on a baking sheet and cover again. Let rise 30 more minutes.
  6. Bake the buns for 12 to 13 minutes in an oven preheated to 425°F (220°C)
  7. Let cool and then garnish with your favorite veggie burger
